Simple Life in Thailand. A Day of Food, Community and Slow Living

There’s something about life in Thailand that keeps pulling me back. It’s not the big things, it’s the simple ones.

Since Noi moved out of her condo and into a house surrounded by other Thai families, I’ve seen a big change in her. Life there is more social, more open. People talk, cook together, share food. It feels more connected.

It’s very different from the more individual lifestyle I’m used to in the Netherlands. There, everything is more structured and focused on your own routine. Here, it’s more about being part of something.

Today was a good example of that.

We didn’t do anything special. No trips, no plans. Just stayed around the neighborhood and took a walk. Getting familiar with the area, seeing daily life around us. Small things, but they matter.

Later, Noi cooked. Nam Tok Moo and Som Tam, two of my favorites. Simple dishes, but full of flavor. Eating like this, at home, feels different from going out. You take your time, you enjoy it more.

What stands out is how calm everything feels. No pressure to do more, no constant rush. Just a slower pace.

Being here makes you think about what actually matters. It’s not about having more or doing more. It’s about how you spend your time and who you spend it with.

For now, this way of living just feels right.
