After arriving and checking into the hotel, everything finally started to slow down.
First step was simple. Shower, change clothes, and get a bit settled. After a long travel day, that moment always feels like a reset.
Once we were ready, we went outside to explore the area a bit and pick up some basic things. Nothing special, just the usual. Shower gel, toothpaste, razors, mosquito spray.
We walked to the nearest 7-Eleven.
That’s where it hits you again. The prices. Compared to the Netherlands, everything feels cheap. Not just a bit cheaper, but a big difference. You can grab everything you need without thinking too much about it.
It’s a small thing, but it stands out.
After that, we went back to the hotel to drop everything off. No need to carry it around in the heat.
Then it was time to eat.
Walking through the streets in the evening is where Bangkok really starts to feel alive. Lights, traffic, people everywhere, and the mix of smells from food stalls and small restaurants.
The heat and humidity are still there, especially after just arriving. You feel it constantly, but after a while, you just accept it.
We didn’t look for anything specific. Just walked around until something felt right.
That’s how we ended up at a small local restaurant. Nothing fancy, just a few tables, simple setup, but it felt good.
We ordered Pad Krapao.
My first real Thai meal in Thailand.
And you notice it straight away. The flavor is different. Fresh, strong, a bit spicy, but balanced. Simple dish, but done right.
Sitting there, eating, watching people pass by, that’s when it really starts to sink in.
You’re not just visiting. You’re actually there.
After dinner, we walked a bit more, just taking in the area. No rush, no plans. Just getting familiar with the surroundings.
Then back to the hotel to rest.
Looking back, it was a simple evening. Nothing big, nothing planned.
But those are usually the best ones to start with.
