Arriving in Bangkok. Reunion, Heat and First Moments Before Songkran

Landing in Bangkok always brings the same feeling. A mix of relief after the flight and that immediate sense that you’re back.

The airport was busy. You could tell right away. Long lines at passport control, people everywhere, and that typical arrival rush. It made sense. Songkran was coming up, and Bangkok was filling up fast.

The wait took a bit longer than usual, but at that point you just go with it. No reason to stress, you’re already there.

Walking into the arrivals hall, there’s always one moment that matters most.

Seeing Noi again.

After a long time apart, that first moment is simple, but it hits every time. Everything else fades out for a second.

Then you step outside.

And Bangkok reminds you immediately where you are.

The heat hits you straight away. Not gradual, just instant. I was still wearing a hoodie and jogging pants from the flight, which made it even worse. Within seconds, that felt like a bad decision.

A bottle of water and changing into lighter clothes fixed that quickly, but it’s always that first moment that catches you off guard.

From there, we took a taxi into the city. Traffic was already building up, typical Bangkok style. Busy roads, motorbikes moving through gaps, everything in motion.

Our hotel was near the river, in a quieter area compared to the main tourist spots. That made a difference right away. Less noise, a bit more space, and a better place to settle in after a long trip.

Once inside, the first real reset happens. Shower, clean clothes, something light to eat. That moment where you go from “travel mode” to actually being there.

We didn’t rush into the evening. Just stayed in for a bit, talking and thinking about what to do next.

With Songkran starting soon, the energy in the city was already building. You could feel something was coming.

Looking back, it wasn’t a complicated day. Flight, arrival, taxi, hotel.

But it’s always an important one.

It sets the tone for everything that follows.
