Bangkok to Koh Samet. Bus, Speedboat and First Day on the Island

Today we left Bangkok and headed to Koh Samet.

After breakfast at the hotel, we packed our bags and took a taxi to Ekkamai bus station. From there, we caught the bus to Ban Phe, the main departure point for Koh Samet.

The plan was simple. Bus, boat, and then the island.

The bus ride, though, was something else.

The air conditioning was set way too cold. One of those situations where you’re sitting there thinking it will get better, but it doesn’t. After a while, it actually becomes uncomfortable.

Four hours like that feels long.

Still, it’s part of the trip. Not everything goes perfectly.

Once we arrived in Ban Phe, things moved quickly again. Noi arranged the speedboat without any trouble, and within a short time, we were heading out to sea.

That part completely changed the mood.

The speedboat ride was fast, a bit rough, but in a good way. Fresh air, water splashing, and finally feeling like you’re getting closer to the island.

After about 20 minutes, we arrived at Koh Samet.

From there, we took a pickup taxi to the resort. Simple transport, but it gets the job done.

The resort itself was nice. A small cottage, quiet, and with a good view. It had that relaxed island feeling straight away.

But the day started to catch up with us.

After the cold bus ride, both of us didn’t feel great. Noi went to rest, and I stayed outside for a bit with a coffee, just sitting and looking around.

That moment was actually one of the better parts of the day. Quiet, no movement, just letting everything settle.

Dinner didn’t help much.

The food at the resort was disappointing, especially for the price. That’s always frustrating when you expect something better. We already knew we would look for other places the next day.

The night was rough.

Noi wasn’t feeling well, and I couldn’t really sleep either. At some point, I just went outside and sat on the veranda.

That turned into one of those unexpected moments.

Dark, quiet, and just the sound of nature around you. Insects, wind, the sea in the distance. Not planned, but something you remember.

Looking back, it wasn’t a perfect travel day.

Cold bus, getting sick, bad food.

But that’s also part of traveling.

Not every day is smooth, but even the difficult ones have moments that stand out.

Tomorrow is a new day, and hopefully a better one.
