On My Way to Thailand. Delays, Stress and Finally Boarding

Today was the start of another trip to Thailand. It’s always a specific feeling. A mix of excitement and focus, knowing the journey ahead is long, but also knowing exactly what’s waiting at the end.

The day started early with the train to Schiphol. Sitting there with my bags, watching the Dutch landscape pass by, everything still felt calm and under control. Just another travel day, nothing unusual yet.

At the airport, things moved smoothly. Check-in was quick, security was efficient, and within a short time I was already through to the departure area. Schiphol does that well. Everything just flows.

That changed when I saw the delay.

The Lufthansa flight to Munich was pushed back by three hours. At that moment, everything shifted. I already knew my connection to Bangkok was tight, and this delay made it uncertain. That’s when your mind starts running ahead. Calculating times, wondering if it’s still possible, thinking about alternatives.

Waiting at the gate felt longer than it should. You sit there, watching other flights board, checking the time again and again. Not much you can do except wait.

After what felt like a long stretch, boarding finally started. A small relief, but not enough to relax. The next challenge was still ahead.

The flight to Munich was short, about one and a half hours, but it didn’t feel relaxing. I kept thinking about the connection. Looking at the time, estimating how long everything would take after landing.

Once we touched down, it immediately turned into action.

Leaving the plane, walking fast through the terminal, following signs without really thinking. Just moving. Munich Airport is well organized, but when you’re short on time, everything feels slower than it actually is.

At some point, walking turned into a quick pace, almost running. You don’t want to take risks, but you also know you don’t have time to waste.

When I finally reached the gate and saw people still boarding, that moment was pure relief. No stress anymore. Just the realization that I made it.

Boarding the flight to Bangkok felt completely different. The pressure was gone. Everything slowed down again.

Then came an unexpected bonus. The plane wasn’t full, and I ended up with a full row of seats. After a day like this, that’s exactly what you need. Space, comfort, and the chance to finally relax.

Stretching out, closing my eyes, and getting some proper rest changed everything. The stress from earlier faded quickly.

When I woke up during the descent into Bangkok, everything felt calm again. The long journey was almost over, and the real part of the trip was about to begin.

Looking back, it was one of those travel days that reminds you how unpredictable things can be. Delays, stress, uncertainty. But also small moments that make up for it.

In the end, everything worked out.

And that’s usually how it goes.
