Today was the start of our trip to Koh Chang. Something we had been looking forward to for a while.
What started as a trip for two quickly turned into four. Noi’s neighbor Saen and her husband Martin joined us. It changed the dynamic in a good way. More relaxed, more fun.
We left early and started the drive to Trat. It’s about four hours, but it doesn’t feel that long. The scenery along the way keeps it interesting. Green landscapes, small towns, and a slower pace compared to the city.
At the harbor, we took the ferry to Koh Chang. That moment always feels like the real start of the trip. Leaving the mainland behind and heading towards the island.
Once we arrived, we still had a long drive ahead. About 50 kilometers to the resort. The roads on Koh Chang are no joke. Steep hills, sharp turns, and narrow sections. It keeps you focused, but it also makes the trip more interesting.
We stayed at Cliff Cottage. From the moment we arrived, it felt relaxed. Friendly staff, animals walking around, and a quiet atmosphere. Not luxury, but comfortable in the right way.
After settling in, we went out to find food. We ended up at a small place with a bit of a hippie vibe and a great view. Good food, simple setting, and one of those places you don’t plan but are happy you found.
Later, we walked around a bit, just getting a feel for the area. Nothing special planned, just exploring.
We ended the day back at the resort with another meal and took it easy after that.
Looking back, it was a full day. Drive, ferry, more driving, and settling in. But that’s part of it. The journey is just as much the experience as the destination.
