Today started early. Around 5 AM I was already awake, sitting on the balcony and looking out over the sea. Everything was quiet. Just the sound of the water and the first light coming in. Moments like that don’t need much.
A bit later, Noi joined me and we just sat there for a while before heading to breakfast. Nothing rushed, just easing into the day.
After breakfast, we took a walk along the bay. Pook, the resort dog, showed up again, full of energy as always. It’s funny how those small things become part of your routine.
We didn’t really have a plan, so we just got on the motorbike and started driving. That’s usually when you find the best places.
At some point, we ended up at something completely unexpected. The abandoned Galaxy ship and the old Koh Chang Grand Lagoona Resort near Bang Bao. Seeing a large ship just sitting there, no activity, no people, was a strange feeling.
The story behind it is unclear. It used to be part of a resort where people could even stay on the ship. Now everything is left behind. Empty buildings, quiet surroundings, and that feeling that something just stopped there. Whether it’s financial problems or something else, you don’t really know. That’s what makes it interesting.
After that, we kept driving and stopped at a viewpoint. From there you get a wide view over the island and the sea. Koh Chang really shows its best side from above.
Later in the day, we ended up in a small village and had lunch at a local place. Simple Thai food, fresh, and exactly what you want after being out for a few hours.
One of the highlights was a short boat ride through a water village. Houses built over the water, quiet surroundings, and a different way of living. It gives you a better idea of how life works here outside the tourist areas.
By the end of the day, we headed back to the resort. Tired, but in a good way. Dinner was simple, and we didn’t do much after that.
Looking back, it was one of those days where you don’t plan anything, but still see a lot. From quiet mornings to unexpected places and small local moments. That’s what makes Koh Chang stand out.
